My oldest son loves drawing, and I am always excited to see his newest creations. Lately he has been transforming our kitchen into an art studio, as he has been drawing with his awesome new Car Design Studio from ArtLab, the creative brand from SmartLab.

The Car Design Studio consists of a light table, traceable acetate outlines and add-on clings, which help my son customize the car just the way he wants it.

After he has built the the car design with the removable add-on clings, he puts a piece of paper over the acetate outline on top of the light table, and then it is time to draw. The lines from the car outline including the add-on clings can easily be seen through the paper thanks to the light from the light table, and it does not take long before my son starts sharing his fantastic creations with me.

The 32 page illustrated handbook comes with great tips, and it both gives the inspiration as well as teaches how to takes steps to make these creative car drawings without the light table.

The Car Design Studio Includes:

• 9” x 4.5” light table
• 6 traceable car body acetates
• 95 car accessory clings
• 10 colored pencils
• 36 sheets of sketch paper
• 32-page fully illustrated book

My son gets up early in the morning, and while he used to turn on the television as soon as he got up, I now find him sitting over his drawing table with the Car Design Studio.

Below you will see how my son has added cling-ons to customize the car template.

The ArtLab Car Design Studio has won the Parent’s Choice Award as well as a Nappa Gold Award.

The ArtLab brand from SmartLab has eight different art kits including the Car Design Studio and Custom Motorcycle Design, and the SmartLab brand has numerous science kits in their catalog, which are perfect for any tween boy. There are even some for girls too, just check out the cool selection at SmartLab.com.

My sons are big fans of the SmartLab and ArtLab kits, and during a recent trip to Barnes & Noble, they both filled up their wish lists with awesome kits from SmartLab. When I asked them to choose one kit each to put on their wish list for Christmas, they both declared that it was impossible to choose just one.

As a mother I absolutely love the SmartLab and ArtLab kits, because they help my sons get engaged in the world around them, the kits make them think, explore the fantastic world of science, and they inspire my sons to use their imagination.

The Best Gifts for Tween Boys

PhotobucketThe Car Design Studio is recommended from ages 7 +, and it is the perfect gift for a tween boy. Not only does it foster imagination, but it also encourages creativity, and it helps teach drawing in a cool and trendy way.

The Car Design Studio is a great way to get your tween son away from the game station and television, because it is a sure way to keep him occupied for hours.
