...Featuring Norah JonesFeaturing by Norah Jones will be released in stores today, and as a long-time Norah Jones fan, I have been eager to listen to Norah Jones’ latest release. …Featuring by Norah Jones is a compilation of cameos, duets and collaborations from all musical genres from jazz to country to hip hop.

When I first played …Featuring I was excited, because “Love Me” with Norah Jones and the Little Willies is fabulous. It’s soothing soul-filled rhythms, as well as its smooth and bluesy character takes me back to the fifties, although I was not even born. “Love Me” with Norah Jones and the Little Willies it is true to Norah Jones’ style and the jazzy Norah Jones sound that can make a time traveler out if any fan.

“Ruler of my Heart” by Norah Hones and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, as well makes my ears hungry for more Norah Jones, while her “Life Is  Better” with Q-Tip and “Baby Its Cold Outside” with Willie Nelson would be great on their own, but as part of a whole these songs distract and make the album feel disconnected.

I am split when it comes to …Featuring by Norah Jones, because there are songs that I love, and then there are songs that I still like, but they take me out of the Norah Jones mood, because the genres are too far from her smooth jazzy style.

Norah Jones has a fantastic reach, and Featuring by Norah Jones shows off exactly what a versatile artist she can be. As a Norah Jones fan, I prefer that she stays with her smooth bluesy and jazzy style that makes me ponder and relax; however, I would gladly take an an entire album filled with Norah Jones songs featuring the Little Willies.

Unfortunately the rest of the album did not live up to my expectations. It is still Norah Jones, and I am still a fan, but I felt as if I was being pulled out of my usual soul filled spot at certain times, when the music genres changed and left me confused and feeling that the album was incohesive.

I can still recommend …Featuring by Norah Jones, because while the album has its flaws, it also shows off Norah Jones’ versatility and strengths as an artist that cannot be tied down or copied.
