I finally managed to make it to Publix this morning, but we did not need much. One crazy thing is that I was out of facial tissue – I don’t know how, but between my all-year allergies and constant sick kids, we have gone through way to many boxes of facial tissue the past couple of months, so it was time to stock up….again. I found them at 4 for $5 (big sign indicating the size specified etc).

With three kids in tow on a Saturday morning, it was not a fantastic shopping trip, and  I made several mistakes…..
I had a rude and very coupon un-friendly cashier, I did not get to check the prices while they were ringing up, and I was too busy with the kids to go over the receipt in the store….bad mistake.
I knew something was wrong with either my calculations or the receipt, as I usually know exactly what my groceries will cost me before and after coupons  before I get to the register. However, between the three kids and the rude cashier, I was trying very hard keeping everything together and my little one’s hands where they were supposed to be.
It turned out that the Kleenex each rang up at $1.97 instead of $1.25 and the coupon hating cashier added 2 x $0.75 coupons instead of taking one $0.75 coupon off, which means that I bought some very expensive chips arghh..
So as I was sitting here going over my receipt, I realized that it was way off, and I ended up giving Publix a call, just to check on the price of the Kleenex. Fortuantely, I spoke to one of the friendly managers, and she went to check the price. The sign was there, but it was an old sign. She said they would of course honor the sign, and I could bring in my receipt to get the mistakes fixed.
It might seem like a small deal, but the mistakes ended up costing me $5.82 – which could buy me a lot of food with coupons.
I know my local Publix has great customer service, and most of the managers know their coupon policies well, which I highly appreciate. As for the cashier …. I hope he just had a bad day, and I did not mention his bad attitude to the manager, but I will definitely do my best to avoid him in the future.
