Book Review: Flappy and Scrappy by Arthur Yorinks (I Can Read Book 2)

Flappy and Scrappy is a sweet story about two best friends, the dogs Flappy and Scrappy, who we follow along on their adventures in the countryside. Even best friends have misunderstandings, and emotions run high whenever the dogs encounter difficult situations. Throughout the book, the dog’s friendship is being tested, and there are many lessons about friendship to be learned.

In Flappy and Scrappy (I Can Read Book 2), there are three different stories, all of which can be read together or independently. In the first story Flappy gets upset, because all the animals are speaking with their mouths full, and instead of saying hello, it sounds as if they are offending him. In the second story, Flappy wants to play ball, but Scrappy is not in the mood. The last story is about Scrappy’s sadness, when no one is wishes him a happy birthday. However, in the of the story his friends are waiting to surprise him, and friendship prevails once again.

Flappy and Scrappy (I Can Read Book 2) is an I Can Read book category 2, and it is perfect for students in grades 1 and 2. The rhyming words are mostly short, there is lots of repetition, and it is a book that both boys and girls will enjoy. This I Can Read easy reader is a cute, easy-to-understand book that uses dogs to touch on topics of friendships, emotions and good manners. The sentences are simple, and the vocabulary is very basic for developing readers.
