It has been a while since I last shared any blogging tips in the Blogging Tips Series here at Frugality Is Free, but today I am going to share a blogging tip that has been extremely helpful, yet it took me forever to discover it. I hope this blogging tip will help some of you as well. Have you ever wondered how you would be able to open up a link in a new window on your blog, so that you did not transfer all of your hard-earned traffic to another blog or website? It is actually quite easy to use the open link in new window code, you just have to know one very short html code.
IMPORTANT: Blogger has now made it possible to do this with a simple click. If you use automatic referral links (such as Amazon), make sure that the links open up in a new window. Simply click on the referral link or image, and then make sure that the “open in new window” tab has been clicked.
Normally, when you write a blog post, your links will look like this: Frugality Is Free
, and when you click on it, you will leave your blog post and go to the site that you have linked to. This means that the reader has left your page, and if you linked to another blog or website, they will now have left your blog entirely.
Fortunately, there is an easy fix to this problem.
Open Link In New Window:
After you are done writing your blog post and have added all the links to your post, go to your EDIT HTML area of the post. Find the first link that you want to open up in a new window.
The link will look like this:
Find this spot in your html link code:
Now copy and paste the below open link in new window html code between the “ and the > signs in your html code:
Your html open link in new window code should now look like this:
When you click on the link, the website will now open up in a new window.
To get all links in your blog post to open up in a new window, all you need to do is copy this open link in new window html code into all of the links in your post.
Once you have added the open link in new window html code into all of the links in your blog post, you will still be able to send your readers to other cool places, but they will also still have your blog or website open. This means they might come back and read something else on your blog, and they will thereby spend more time on your blog or website.
I know it can a bit tedious at first to use this open link in new window code on all your links, but believe me once you discover the benefits, it will be a minor adjustment that will soon become a habit.
I still forget to use the “open link in new window” code once in a while, but the longer I use this html blogging tip, the better I get at remembering to use it.
