H Is for Haunted House: A Halloween Alphabet Book by Tanya Lee Stone is a fun alphabet book with a great Halloween spin. Descriptive seasonal rhymes along with detailed and colorful illustrations keep young children interested in learning their alphabet without even realizing it. Reading H Is For Haunted House out loud to my sons took me quite a while, as they kept on finding something in the illustrations that piqued their curiosity.
The alphabet rhymes start out innocent and comedic, but as the alphabet moves along danger and creepiness slowly emerge. The danger that lurks behind each letter makes the young readers eager to move forward, and soon they will have read the alphabet from A to Z.
By making children forget that they are learning, Tanya Lee Stone has successfully created a seasonal alphabet book that is great for fall. This Halloween alphabet story is perfectly timed, as the back-to-school hype has ended, and our little ones face the reality of their new school year.
