When I was growing up, watching Babar was a treat, because we did not have cable and Babar certainly did not play on the two channels we did have. Our town library sometimes showed the Babar movies on a big screen, and it was an experience I still remember clearly. So, when I learned about the new release of Babar and Father Christmas on DVD, I was eager to watch it with my kids.
Nowadays kids are bombarded with cartoons every day, but a classic cartoon such as Babar is something everyone can appreciate. Babar is the king of the elephants in Celesteville, the land of the elephants, and he is a kind king who strives to do the right thing.
In Babar and Father Christmas, Babar’s children ask why Father Christmas does not come to visit them on Christmas Eve, and Babar sets out on a journey to find Father Christmas and extend an invitation to Celesteville. Babar’s search for Father Christmas takes him to the land of man, and he even gets to visit Paris before he eventually finds his way to Father Christmas.
As with all Babar stories Babar and Father Christmas is a story with a message of kindness, and it is a DVD that will bring the true message of giving to its audience. Babar is a French fictional character created by Jean de Brunhoff in 1931, and in 1989 it was turned into a Canadian television series.
The Babar and Father Christmas DVD features 70 minutes of Babar stories, and it includes the two classic Babar TV bonus episodes: A Child In the Snow and The Gift plus an exclusive 8-Page holiday coloring booklet.
