Whether your child’s bike need a handlebar fix, or the stroller handlebar has been worn by use, there is an easy fix. I absolutely love my Teutonia Mistral stroller, but after seven years and two kids the rubber handlebar wrap recently began breaking, and I needed a quick, affordable and easy fix that would last.
My first reaction was to look for black duct tape, but then I remembered using handlebar wrap on my own bike as a child, and I decided to do some research. Handlebar wrap has improved tremendously, since I last used it, and I made my pick. I chose the Planet Bike Comfort GEL Road Bike Handlebar Tape because of the great reviews, and I was eager to get started fixing my handlebar stroller mess, as it was getting worse every day.
Even though the handlebar tape came with some extra tape for finishings, I decided to pick up some black Scotch 6132-BA-10 Super 33+ Vinyl Electrical Tape as well, because I wanted my do-it-yourself project to last for a long time.
So while the boys were having fun in the park, I decided to try fixing the stroller handlebar on my own. I debated with myself, whether or not I should remove the old rubber handlebar wrap, but I have always loved how it was shaped for hands. So instead I fixed the old rubber handlebar wrap with some of the Scotch Electrical Tape.
The next step was to start the wrapping, and it turned out to be very easy. I simply used a little piece of the Scotch Electrical Tape to attach the handlebar wrap to the handlebar. Then I started wrapping, covering half of it the previously covered handlebar wrap every time. I had to redo this twice to give it the proper fit, but the handlebar wrap is easy to unwrap.
At the very end I used the Scotch Electrical Tape to tape the ends of handlebar wrap. If you are using the handlebar wrap on a bike, it comes with two end plugs for the bike, which will give it a neater finish.
The stroller bar is now working great again, and I love how comfortable this handlebar wrap is. It is a perfect fit with the look of the stroller, and I could not be more pleased with the result.
I could have chosen a cheaper handlebar wrap for the stroller, but I only wanted the best. I wanted it to be comfortable and long lasting, and I do not want to have to change it again in a few months. The Planet Bike handlebar wrap is made of a synthetic cork, and it is thick and soft. I especially love how it is flexible, easy to attach and it conforms to the shape of the old handlebar wrap underneath, which has a special area for the fingers.
The handlebar wrap is extremely comfortable, and I am positively surprised by the experience of putting the handlebar wrap on and with the comfort level.
Fix You Handlebar
You can easily fix your own stroller handlebar or bike handlebar, and I can highly recommend the handlebar tape and the electrical tape, which I purchased for my do-it-yourself project. I give both items five stars, and I have no complaints. I have plenty of the Scotch electrical tape left, and I was going to pass it on to my husband. However, the quality of the tape is awesome, and I already have several projects in mind, so I might just old onto it for a while.
