My 10-year-old son is fascinated with space, the stars, earth and everything in between, which is why the perfect holiday gift for him this year is the Space Theater Planetarium from Magic Cabin. The Space Center Planetarium is a home projector, which displays accurate views of the night sky and star constellations onto the ceiling.
The Space Theater Planetarium comes with a home projector, a star dome, an adapter ring, five constellation masks, a sky mask, a night vision saver and an audio CD as well as a pamphlet which is full of scientific facts and stories about the stars and constellations. The Space Theater Planetarium CD and pamphlet also gives directions on how to use the Space Theater.
The Space Theater Planetarium works best at night, when it is completely dark. However, if you want to try out the home projector during the day, you can easily cover up a table or bunk bed and watch it under the cover up. My sons and I covered up a table, so it could get dark enough for us to take photos of the stars.
The instructions manual gives instructions as to how to set up the projector according to what time of the year it is, and you can switch out the constellations masks.
In addition to the regular instructions, there is an addendum included which tells you how to easily put the tiny bulb in place correctly. The projector also comes with a second spare bulb, which is a great extra benefit.
Once it is dark enough, the projector can easily be turned on and the star-filled sky will appear on the ceiling or the bottom of the table. The star projector light can be adjusted to give up the right amount of light needed for clear images, and the constellation mask can also be turned once the projector is on.
Since my family lives in the city, it is rare for us to get a great look at the stars, which is one of the reasons why I love the Space Theater Planetarium. My kids are always fascinated by the night sky, whenever we make it to the beach in the early morning hours, or if we make our way down to the Florida Keys, where everything in the sky just seems clearer.
It is a bit difficult to take photos in the dark, so check out this Space Theater Planetarium video to see how it works.
