What is Ebates

If you are gearing up for the shopping season, I want to remind all of you to start shopping at your favorite cash back site. A big part about how to be frugal is being smart about your shopping habits, and by earning cash back on what you would have bought anyway, you take the frugality up a notch. My favorite cash back shopping by far is EBATES. I have been a member of Ebates for years, and the rewards are awesome. I am often asked “What is Ebates?” So, I have decided to give a little Ebates review, before the big shopping days.

At Ebates you can earn up to 25 percent back on your online purchases, but most of the time it is more like 2 – 6 percent back. All you have to do is sign in to your Ebates account, and then click through to the store you were planning on shopping at. Ebates will then keep track of your purchase, and the very same day, you will receive an email notification of how much cash back you earned. Most stores give you 2 – 6 percent back, and while it may not sound like much, these are savings that you would not have had otherwise.

You can get your cash back savings back via check or paypal, and I am especially excited about the latest change from Ebates, which means that instead of getting your cash back as a quarterly check, you can now request to get it in an Amazon gift card instead.

If you sign up at Ebates here, you will even get a $5 Ebates bonus to start out with.

I use Ebates before I shop at the following sites:

  • Ebay – 3 percent cash back
  • Amazon – up to 4 percent cash back (only specific categories)
  • JCPenney – 8 percent cash back
  • Target – 3 percent cash back
  • Kohl’s – 7 percent cash back
  • The Children’s Place – 2.5 cash back
  • Walmart – 4 percent cash back
  • Half.com – 4 percent cash back
  • Better World Books – 3 percent cash back
  • Lands End – 6 percent cash back
  • LL Bean – 2 percent cash back
  • Old Navy – 10 percent cash back

The above are just my favorite online sites to shop at, but the list of cash back stores at Ebates is endless. Once you log into your Ebates acount, you can simply enter the store you want to shop at in the search box, or you can choose it from the Shop All Stores tab.

So before you start your holiday shopping this year, make sure to start out at Ebates, so that you can save a little extra. I usually wait for the great coupon deals and free shipping deals, and that’s the only time I shop online. So find the best deal with free shipping, and get a little extra cash back with Ebates as well.

I find the coupon deals in my inbox through emails from the companies, at retailmenot and even here at Ebates, and once I find the perfect free shipping + coupon code combination, I head to the Ebates site to start out instead of clicking through the email from the company.

If you have yet to sign up at Ebates, you can get a $5 bonus, when you make your first purchase after you sign up for Ebates here.

Do you earn cash back at Ebates?
