We celebrated Earth Day by walking to Publix after school, which might not be a big celebration in itself, but still at least we saved the gas. We are a one-car family, for many reasons, but trying to minimize our footprint on the world is one of them.
Publix is a great place to shop, if you are looking for affordable organic options. We usually bring along our reusable shopping bags, and Publix has a really good reusable cooler bag for the groceries as well, it works, it lasts and it will help you use less plastic shopping bags. If you do use regular plastic shopping bags, you can reuse them as garbage bags in the bathroom, or bring them back to Publix to be recycled, as Publix has bins outside the store for this very purpose.
In the Frugality Is Free family Earth Day is every day, and we are very excited about our city’s comprehensive recycling system. All papers that can be reused such as junk mail, notes from school, leftover paper scraps from printing coupons and such are all reused for homework and note writing. We have a recycling bag hanging in the kitchen, where all paper goes once it can no longer be reused, and whenever it is full, we empty it in the recycling bin outside.
We love Muir Glen tomato products, and we just tried Larabar bar fruit and nut bars for the first time this week, and now we now know what at the hype is about. Larabar fruit bars are phenomenal! Larabars are gluten free, non-gmo, kosher, and they are made with fair trade certified chocolate….yummy!
Another favorite of ours are the Cascadian Farms Granola bars, and while I personally love the crunchy granola bars, the kids all love the chewy granola bars. Make sure to look out for specially marked boxes of the Cascadian Farms Granola bars, which has coupons on them.
The Cascadian Farms Chewy Granola bars are especially great for a little extra energy after a day at the pool, the beach, the playground or simply after an afternoon playing in the backyard like the boys did today.
