The Best Summer Toys: Steel Sand Digger from HearthSong Review & Giveaway

Frugality Is Free Disclaimer review and giveaway

Summer is right around the corner, but here in South Florida it sure feels like summer already, and our boys are counting down the days to summer vacation. At this time of the year, I always try to come up with the best summer toys for the kids, especially since our youngest son has a summer birthday. Our go to places for the best summer toys for kids are HearthSong and Magic Cabin, because these companies have the best selection of classic toys for kids that bring back nostalgic memories as well as new toys that are sure to become classics. Our most recent addition to the backyard from HearthSong is the Sturdy Steel Sand Digger.

Our sandbox is rather small, but it still brings lots of fun for the kids, and now that the Sturdy Steel Sand Digger has found a home in our backyard, the sand box is being used more than ever.

The Steel Sand Digger from HearthSong certainly deserves a spot on our list of the best summer toys, because it has been a great way for the kids to construct, use their imagination and role play in the sand box.

sand digger shipping

The steel sand digger came shipped very well protected, and I was very impressed with how easy the set up was. There was no need for help, as the steel digger easily clicked into place, and only two bolts for seat were needed for the set up. It took less than five minute from we pulled the steel sand digger out of the box, until it was ready for playtime in the sandbox.

The sand digger works great in both sand and leaves, and our youngest sons can spend hours in the backyard digging, moving dirt, and getting leaves together in a pile.  The digger’s sturdy steel shovel is solid with sturdy teeth that can dig without being sharp.

sand digger handles

Both the sand digger handles and the sand digger seat is made out of sturdy semi-soft plastic, which makes using and controlling the steel sand digger easy to do without discomfort, even when it is used for long stretches of time.  The handle covers were already attached to the handles, which I was pleased to see, as these appear to have been put on so well that they will not come off.

What’s So Great About the Sturdy Steel Sand Digger from HearthSong

  • The  sand digger can reach over four feet to scoop up mounds of sand or snow
  • The sand digger  rotates 360° to unload
  • It has a wide base that helps keep the balance and prevents any tumbles.
  • It has a comfortable, sturdy seat
  • It has two handles for dual hand controls, which helps encourage hand eye coordination.

The Sturdy Sand Digger from HearthSong is intended for kids ages 3 and up with a maximum weight of 70 lbs. It measures 50-1/2″L x 24″ wide, and it is 31-1/2″ tall, and it works great for our both our two youngest sons ages 4 and 8.
