For the past 10 years we have done a lot of shopping on, but we’ve only used our credit card twice. I am constantly finding new ways to feed our Amazon shopping, and it is simply amazing how easy it is to earn Amazon gift cards online.

Over the summer we blew the motor on our vacuum cleaner, oh boy what a hassle. In a family with four kids, three of them boys, we use the vacuum cleaner daily, and we had to pull out the old vacuum cleaner (which we thankfully had kept for the just in case). Now, the old vacuum cleaner had been replaced, because it just does not have the best suction power after years of use.

So, I set out on a mission to earn enough Amazon gift cards to pay for a new vacuum cleaner without having to tap into our bank account. My goal was to get $100 Amazon gift cards in 2 months.

Over the years I’ve purchased everything from printer cartridges, to books, an exercise bike, a surfboard, a sewing machine, and a digital SLR camera with Amazon gift cards earned online. Every time we earn an Amazon gift card, I immediately add it to our Amazon account, so that we never loose track of the gift cards.  This way we always have a gift card balance in our account in case the kids need something, and we always save up for Christmas and birthdays this way as well.

We do not have Amazon Prime, so whenever we need something from Amazon, I write it on our Amazon list. Once we have products costing more than $35 on our list, we make the purchase and have it shipped for free.

Now that our oldest son has turned 13, I am trying to teach him how he too can earn Amazon gift cards online and on his phone, so that he can buy things that he thinks he needs. His first goal is saving up for a kayak…

Earning gift cards online takes patience, and saving up for what you need with gift cards takes patience. It is an important lesson to teach the kids, becaus buying with gift cards is even better than buying with cash. I also save our gift cards or sales and combine them with coupons to stretch our JCPenney, Macy’s and Kohl’s gift cards even more. The $10 gift card you’ve earned at Mypoints or with the ShopKick app can easily turn into a $50 gift card, if you spend it right.

Do you earn gift cards online? Do you earn gift cards with phone apps? If so, which are your favorite online earning places? We are always looking for new places to earn.

  1. […] Walmart toy clearance lately? Do you use the Ibotta app. You can find all of the places we use to earn gift cards online or via apps […]

  2. Good for you!
I’ve been a member of several but had a difficult time with some of them. Like MyPoints, thought they were great, but when it is prize to collect time, it keeps blocking me though not blocked from taking the surveys!

glad you got your happy vacuum. 🙂

  3. I’m impressed; I simply could never keep track of things well enough to pull this off. It’s a lot of work!

    • Margot, I have each place as a bookmark on the toolbar, which makes it easy to click through, and if I don’t have it there I forget.

  4. I have joined several of these places but have not taken advantage of them yet. I joined ibotta, bing and swagbucks and I wonder if it is worth the time to be honest.

    • Natalie, we’ve got four kids, and I always save up the amazon gift cards, so that no gift will ever have to be purchased with a credit card. Thanks to Swagbucks and Bing I have only used gift cards at Amazon for the past seven years or so, and now with Checkpoints the savings add up even faster. As I mentioned above, it is all about having your favorite places listed on your bookmark toolbar, and then doing them every day.

  5. I do not own a phone so I don’t do any of those, but I do Swagbucks each day. I hope to start MyPoints again, too.

  6. I am a big fan of Swagbucks. I earn a lot of Amazon gift cards there.

  7. I use to do MyPoints, but got out of the habit. I need to be taking advantage of this. With five kids and now five grandkids I need this more than ever.

  8. […] when we have a good Amazon gift card balance in our account. See a list of our favorite places to earn Amazon gift cards […]

  9. I earn most of my Amazon credits with Swagbucks. I participate in a few other sites but Swagbucks is the most consistent.
