friday finals

Can you believe  that it’s April already? I certainly have a hard time keeping up with the time, as it is flying past me. Between appointments, conferences and such the days just fly by around here. I did a little shopping, but we didn’t need much, and we came in well below our weekly $80 grocery budget for our family of six. This is a good thing, since I had a couple of above budget weeks to make up for.

Another reason why it was a good thing to stay below budget this week is that I sent off all birthday and Christmas gifts for my side of the family this week, which cost us $80. It was a lot cheaper than sending something at every birthday though, and  since my brothers, their families and my dad live close by each other it makes sense to send everything together. It’s a relief to have all of those gifts sent off, especially since we have a couple of extremely stressful months ahead of us here in the Frugality Is Free family. I always try to get all of the gifts together before the first visitors of the year, but this year we’ll be moving which means no visitors, so we have to rely on the postal system for  gift delivery – which sure is expensive. Thankfully I ship clearance and try to win gifts, so I save as much as I can on the gifts, so that I can offset the shipping cost. Of course I still have our own four kids to think about, but it makes it more doable, and I shop throughout the year for them as well, and I save up Amazon gift certificates for the big gifts.

Have you started your holiday shopping yet?

  1. I would love to hear your numbers for the year so far for clothing and food!
You do such a great job each and every week and I know those boys are getting big and it gets much harder the bigger they are to cloth and feed them!

I have been following your blog for years I started when we too were in Florida and I think that was before your daughter was born I know the boys get hard to cloth when they get to Mens sizes.

You truly do an amazing job!

    • I used to do my yearly totals, but I’ll admit that stopped when my daughter was born. There just isn’t much time left over with four kids in the house, and I can barely keep up with the couponing. You are so right though, clothing gets expensive when the boys reach men’s sizes. Thankfully, we’ve been able to get a lot of free and cheap second-hand clothing through Schoola, and so my kids are still the best dressed kids on the block, even if the oldest now wear men’s sizes.’

Thank you for your kind words!
