I’m back with the Weekly Savings Linky again. I took a month off, because I had to prioritize. It has been a stressful fall around here with settling in, getting our new home renovated and my husband getting a new job with a bit of a commute. Because of all of this I often ended up going grocery shopping on the weekend, which threw off the savings linky schedule.

It’s certainly not due to the lack of shopping, as we have entered the home stretch face of our home renovation, and we’ve been spending lots at the home renovation store. All but one bathroom has been painted, and we are finally getting organized. It is not fun living in moving boxes, and it is even less fun painting and renovating a home, once you’re in it. But we moved in the day that we signed the papers, so it has been a bit of a stressful move.

Thankfully we can see the end, and it is just in time as we are having overnight visitors after Christmas …. what a great motivator it has been to get the house under control.

  1. Hi Just curious on something. Do you have or ever have done a menu plan based on your shopping trips? I’m curious as i’m preparing to start the new year on a healthier budget friendly menu and i notice you shop lots of fruits/veggies. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks so much!

    • Deb, I don’t do menu plans. I’m simply not that organized, and I’m usually running short on time as it is. Besides my family is ridiculously picky, so I often cook several meals in one. My daughter and I are vegetarians, which makes it even more complicated.

One thing I do to get the meat eaters to eat healthier is load up meat sauce with liquefied veggies and lentils. Not only does it make it healthier, but it also stretches the meat. For lb of ground beef, I’ll add a lb of mixed veggies almost liquefied in he food chopper. Lentils, mushrooms, spinach and lots of onion is a must. My boys just discovered that I did this a few months ago, but after they realized their favorite meat sauce had been cooked this way forever, they’ve accepted that they actually do eat veggies:)

I’ll make enough meat sauce for spaghetti and meat sauce one night, and then I’ll turn it into ziti or lasagna the next night.
